Superintendent of Police, South Abhishek Dhania while addressing the media in the presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Santosh Desai and Colva police station in-charge, PI Theron D’Costa, SP Dhani informed that the Betalbatim murder case has been cracked within 24 hours.
He said the Colva police team has gone to Rajasthan to get all the four accused persons back to Goa.
The names of the accused persons were provided as 31-year old Simanchal Parida, a native of Odisha, who was working as cook cum maid for the deceased doctor, Alok Singh, aged 19 years and Nagendra Kumar, aged 25 years, both natives of Alwar-Rajasthan and Shahid Khan, aged 23 years, a native of Shivajipark, Dadar, Mumbai.
Dr Nirwan Bharat, a native of Madhepura-Bihar was found murdered in his apartment on the second floor of a residency at Nagwaddo, Betalbatim on Wednesday evening. He was working in a hospital at Nuvem.
SP Dhania informed that during the course of investigation, an input was received from the technical surveillance as well as local intelligence that one Simanchal Parida, aged 31 yrs n/o Ganjam, Odisha who was working at the rental premises with the doctor as his personal cook had suspiciously gone missing.
“The cook was traced at Bhilwara Rajasthan in a joint operation with Rajasthan Police while travelling in a red colour Ford Figo car bearing No. MH14 CC 2985 while trying to flee, along with his other three associates. After interrogation at length, the four have admitted to have committed the heinous crime,” he said.
SP Dhania informed the cook working for the deceased came in contact with the doctor since he was working for the same hospital at Nuvem before he was terminated. “As far as the other three accused are concerned, they appear to be the associates of the cook Simanchal Parida. They had apparently come down to Goa in search of job and were looking out for accommodation,” he said.
He said DGP Jaspal Singh has complimented the Colva police team and have announced commendation certificates to the officers and staff involved in the investigations.
SP Dhania also complimented the role played by the Bilwara-Rajasthan police in tracking down the accused based on the intelligence gathered by the Goa police.
“Further interrogation of the accused will further unravel the conspiracy hatched by the accused persons,” SP Dhania added.
