Condemning the silence of Sarpanch and entire Loliem panchayat body, environmentalists have warned elected representatives of serious repercussions if they do not come out in support of villagers opposing seven proposed projects approved by the Loliem-Polem Comunidade.

“Despite being fully aware that the people of Loliem and Poinguinim have always opposed any development on these plateaus, these elected representatives have chosen to remain silent,” stated village environmentalist Prashant S Pagi, who is one of the crusaders against mega projects and member of Citizens Committee of Loliem-Polem (CCLP).

“There are clear-cut Gram Sabha resolutions passed in October 2016 and again in November 2023, reflecting the united stand of the villagers against such destructive proposals. Yet, the panchayat members have become mute spectators, bowing to the pressure of a few politicians and government forces instead of standing with their own people.”

Pagi made it clear that the people of Loliem and Poinguinim are ready for a tough and united fight—on the ground, in the media, and in the courts—to save their plateau and protect their village from this reckless and unjust development.

“We also call upon the local MLA to understand the sentiments of the villagers and respect the Gram Sabha resolutions. Getting elected with the support of the same people whose land and future is now being endangered is a clear betrayal. If elected representatives continue to prioritise selfish gains and political interests over the voice of the people, the voters will not forget this in the next elections,” cautioned Pagi.
