National football player Alvito D'Cunha from Curchorem joined the Congress Party on Monday.
Goa Pradesh Congress President Girish Chodankar said that, if voted to power, the Congress government will appoint only sportspersons on government sports bodies.
While speaking on the occasion, Girish said that it is the duty of every elected Government to give respect to the sportspersons and associations for their contribution to the sporting field.
The footballer was presented with a Congress Jersey with his favourite number 9 by GPCC President Girish Chodankar.
Girish alleged that the BJP sports ministry is promoting family Raj rather than giving positions to good sportspersons.
Chodankar said that Government cannot find time to name a stand at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium after "Monte Cruz Stand" to recognise the efforts of former Sports Minister Francis Monte Cruz.
Francis Monte Cruz has worked tirelessly to ensure completion of the stadium in record seven months to host International Football Tournament, recalled Chodankar.
The leader of Opposition while welcoming Alvito D'Cunha in the Congress said that the party will be strengthened by the entry of the talented footballer who is always committed to his work.
Alvito D'Cunha said that time has come to ensure that Goan sportspersons get enough encouragement and support in Goa itself.
