GKN warns if works not stopped, people’s power will be on full display on Nov 1

MARGAO
Goyant Kollso Naka knocked on the doors of the South Goa district Ajit Roy on Friday with a plea to revoke the permissions granted to the railways to execute work on laying the double track at the Chandor railway crossing on November 2 and at Davorlim crossing on November 9.

The organization has warned that if the Collector does not revoke the permissions for laying the double track, the people of Goa will show the government the people’s power on the intervening night of November 1 and 2 at the Chandor railway crossing.

Led by Goyant Kollso Naka co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai, the delegation submitted a memorandum listing the detailed points why the Collector should revoke the permission granted to the railways to carry out work on the double-tracking at the three railway crossings at Nessai, Chandor and Davorlim.

After meeting the Collector, Abhijit told the media that the delegation had come to tell the Collector that he should take back the order issued to the railways to close the road at the Chandor railway crossing on the intervening night of November 1 and 2 to lay the double track.

He further informed that the delegation impressed upon the Collector that his order granting NOC to the railways has been violated since the railways have not obtained any permissions from the local panchayat bodies before executing the work.

Abhijit further informed that since the Vasco-Hospet track doubling is a linear project, the railways cannot execute the work in a piecemeal manner without obtaining permissions from the authorities on the entire stretch.

He also pointed out that the delegation drew the attention of the Collector to the stay granted by the High Court regarding work at Mollem, adding that the railways are also mandated to take the permissions from all the authorities.

“We would like to tell the government to place before the people of Goa all the answers regarding the double-tracking and other projects. We reiterate that all those planning to get coal in the country are working against the country and its people,” he said.

To a question, Abhijit said the Collector assured the delegation that he would place the memorandum before the government as it involves a policy matter. He, however, exuded confidence that a

huge movement of people on the intervening night of November 1 and 2 will give victory to the people of Goa against the project.
