GMFF to premiere ‘A Dot Com Mom’ today
Goa Marathi Film Festival (GMFF) will be holding the world premiere of the first Marathi film shot in the USA – ‘A Dot Com Mom’ on June 4, at Kala Academy. Directed by Dr Meena Nerurkar, an Indian gynaecologist, actor, director, author, playwright, dancer and a choreographer based in the USA, the film portrays an emotional relationship between a mother and her son.
“This film tells a story of those like us from India who live in America, facing difficult to adjust in an alien country and finding ways to cope up with the modern life. Though this is my first Marathi film but as the story relates to both Indians and Indo-Americans, I am confident that it will entertain both, Indian as well as NRI audience,” said Dr Nerurkar at a press conference in Kala Academy today.
Dr Nerurkar who takes the credit for story, screenplay and dialogues of 'A Dot Com Mom', has directed many plays in the USA but her popular musicals ‘Sundara Manamadhe Bharali’ and ‘Awagha Rang Ekachi Zala’ were invited in India. She received the Mangeshkar Foundation’s Adishakti award and the Jagatik Marathi Academy’s award for ‘Sundara Manamadhe Bharali’ while ‘Awagha Ranga Ekachi Zala’ had starred Padmashri Prasad Savkar, the noted vocalist from Goa and Dr Nerurkar won Annasaheb Kirloskar Puraskar and the Maharashtra State award for best playwright for this musical.
Fluent in English, Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi, Dr Nerurkar has authored many books and plays. Her books, Dhanya Tee Gynac Kala’ and ‘Thase Manasanche’ were among the top 10 books by Maharashtra Times.
Starring Vikram Gokhale, Vijay Chavan, Asha Shelar, Ram Kolhatkar, Dr Meena Nerurkar, Makarand Bhave, Manasi Karandikar, Madhuanti Bhat, Seeyali Singh, Dr Deven Gobale, Dawn Scott, Carrie Sullivan, Raphael, Dieppa the film is introducing Sai Gundevar and Apurva Bhalerao. The film has three songs, with music by young Indian composers from the USA, Neel Nadkarni and Pratik Shah along with the veteran Mumbai based Goan music director Ashok Patki.
As an actor Meena Nerurkar has appeared on American television in the ABC soap opera ‘One live to live’, the Bollywood movie English Vinglish and Hollywood movies ‘Sleepwalkers Anonymous’ as well as ‘Dr Ravi and Mr Hyde’.
