Goa police are presently running short of 966 personnel while 843 employees are working without promotion over the last decade. In reply to a question tabled by Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, Home Minister and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the House that Goa police presently requires a total of 966 more personnel including eight inspectors, 52 sub-inspectors, 12 lady sub-inspectors, 65 assistant sub-inspectors, 423 head constables and 476 constables.
Present strength of Goa police from Director General of Police to sweeper is 6,076.
Harbour Coastal police station tops the list of understaffed stations with a massive requirement of 80 personnel. This is followed closely by Calangute PS which requires 78 cops and Betul Coastal PS which requires 77 personnel.
Panaji Town Police station in the capital city is short of 73 personnel. Majority of these vacant posts are of police constables.
Meanwhile, the state government also disclosed that a total of 843 cops are working without promotion for last 10 years including police inspector Uttam Y R Dessai and 28 sub-inspectors.
The Police Establishment Board takes up the issues of promotions and staff. It ensures that promotions are in consonance with the promotion guidelines issued by the government from time-to-time and by following eligibility criteria laid down in the recruitment rules.
"Police personnel are promoted as per their eligibility and merit, as and when vacancies arise due to promotions, retirement and creation of new posts by Personnel Department through Goa Public Service Commission," the reply states.
