Reaching out to senior citizens, Goa Police launched a unique initiative for the safety and security of elderly residents of Mapusa and surrounding villages.
“We will share our phone numbers with you. You can call me or the SDPO or the PI when you need help,” said North Goa Superintendent of Police Shobit Saxena (IPS) while kick-starting the senior citizen outreach programme at the Mapusa Police Station.
Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi, Mapusa PI Paresh Naik and other police officers were also present on the occasion.
The police personnel distributed information cards with the phone numbers of police and other services like the ambulance, electricity department, fire, national emergency no etc amongst all the senior citizens present for the meeting.
The beat officers will distribute such information cards to other senior citizens in their area.
Police officials informed that the initiative would empower the elderly residents with new confidence and help to build a safe environment for them.
“It’s a unique initiative. We have been reaching out to the general public like the tourism stakeholders, and students and now we are also reaching out to senior citizens. Many elderly citizens have told us that they do not know whom to call. Sometimes they are unable to get in touch with the police. Today we have given them cards with the numbers of police personnel and other emergency services,” Saxena said.
He urged the senior citizens to especially keep in touch with the beat police who are earmarked for the specific area.
“You need to remain in constant touch with your beat officer. When you go out for a longer time, you need to inform the beat officer who can keep a track of your house when you are away,” he said.
The SP informed that the initiative was launched from the Mapsua sub-division which will later cover the other sub-divisions in the State.
