Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said at least six officials from the Directorate of Health Services are being suspended for alleged acts of corruption and blackmail.
Rane said, a meeting was held at the DHS where the incidents involving two health officers and four sanitary inspectors was discussed and the decision was taken. He however did not elaborate on the nature of their corrupt actions and also did not identify them.
"It was found that the six officials had engaged in unethical practices, including blackmailing individuals. The suspension process has already been initiated and their names will be made public next week,” Rane said, even as he reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency in the public health administration.
Meanwhile, the health department has intensified its anti-dengue interventions across the State in the wake of the rains when the risk of mosquito breeding rises significantly.
In advisories, the public are encouraged to take active interest in eliminating mosquito breeding sites in their neighbourhoods and promote fogging operations.
Other personal do's and don'ts such as use of mosquito repellents, wearing full-sleeved clothing and using mosquito nets in homes are also being encouraged.
People are also being advised by health officials to ensure they remain hydrated throughout the day and to also seek immediate medical help from doctors if they experience fever, headache or body pain.
