Goa’s Candidate Master and Geno Pharmaceuticals brand ambassador Leon Luke Mendonca (Fide Rating: 2174) has yet again made our State proud by winning the gold medal at the prestigious World Schools Team Chess Championship 2017 held at Sochi, Russia from June 2-9.

In all 97 teams from all across the globe participated in this event. The Silver and Bronze medals were awarded to Armenia and Russia
respectively.
Leon remained undefeated in all the nine rounds played in the Classical format. His other team-mate Gukesh D also remained undefeated, Pranav V and Rakshitta R lost two matches. Leon will now travel to Voronezh, Russia to participate in the Alekhine Memorial Grand Masters Open Chess Championship to be held on June 11 and 12.
