Comedian Luis made his debut on the Konkani stage in one ofhis brother’s tiatrs in the year 1998. He was instantly accepted by theaudience as a talented comedian. In the year 2000 he played the comedian’s rolein Comedian Agostinho’s tiatr ‘Suseg’. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, theHindi/English game show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan was popular on the TVchannel during at that time.
In this tiatr, the director had a comedy sequence along thelines of the ‘Kaun Banega Crore Pati’ game show. Comedian Luis was given therole of the host, and his character was named as ‘Luis Bachchan’. His characterwas created in such a manner that he had to dress up like Amitabh Bachchancomplete with his French beard. Props required for the setting of KBC were alsodisplayed on the stage with two computer screens. The atmosphere for this scenewas electrifying. He had to imitate the original anchor’s style of talking andconducting the show. Comedian Luis played the role to the hilt and won theadmiration of the audience.
This comedy sequence in the tiatr became so popular, thatfrom that time onwards Comedian Luis was referred to by his co-artists as wellas the audience as Comedian Luis Bachchan. And this name has continued to date.Now Comedian Luis suffixes his stage name with ‘Bachchan’.
