Services such as Speed Post, registered mail, and others affected
The Margao post Office displayed a board “Server Down” at the counter in view of the disruption of services due to the digital transformation to IT2.0 system.
MARGAO
Postal services at the Margao Head Post Office remained disrupted over the past two days. The Reason: India Post’s transition to its new IT2.0 digital system has encountered technical glitches, affecting key services such as Speed Post, registered mail, and others.
Amongst those in the queue and hit by the snag, sources said were people hoping to send rakhis to their brothers ahead of the upcoming Raksha Bandhan via Speed Post, but had to return home disappointed due to ongoing technical issues.
On Tuesday, a serpentine queue of customers was seen at the Margao post office, with lines spilling onto the pavement outside the building.
It was only later that many customers realized the digital transformation of postal services was not proceeding smoothly in Margao either. A postal official confirmed that the implementation of IT2.0 has faced “teething problems” across various locations.
Social activist Dominick Noronha, who visited the post office at 4 PM on Tuesday, was stopped at the entrance by a security personnel. When questioned—since the post office is scheduled to remain open until 5 PM—the person at the gate explained that the system was down and that he had been instructed not to allow anyone inside.
“When I inquired with postal officials, they admitted that the ongoing digital transformation to IT2.0 has been causing major disruptions. I even met a man who had been stranded at the post office since 12 noon,” said Noronha. “With Raksha Bandhan fast approaching, the postal authorities must urgently resolve this technical issue and streamline services. When we speak of Digital India, any technical snags should be addressed promptly and efficiently.”
Postal officials acknowledged the disruption and attributed it to the nationwide rollout of the IT2.0 system. “This issue is being experienced across the country. Efforts are underway to resolve the problem and provide relief to customers,” said an official.
