As the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao committee headed by Chairman Rajendra Talak has completed two years in office, the panel has assured all artistes and art lovers that they are committed to working with complete dedication to restore the auditorium and black box to their full glory as soon as possible.
Chairman Rajendra Talak, Vice Chairman Manohar Borkar, besides the Member Secretary, and members and staff of Ravindra Bhavan thanked tiatr producers, directors, actors, local artistes, and the people of Salcete for their support and cooperation during the unavoidable pre-monsoon repair work – a situation beyond our control.
“We at Ravindra Bhavan fully sympathise with and understand the difficulties faced by tiatr producers, artistes from tiatr, and also producers and artistes from Konkani and Marathi production teams,” Talak told the media on Tuesday.
The new committee of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao was constituted on July 2, 2023 under the Chairmanship of Rajendra Talak and Vice Chairmanship of Manohar Borkar.
Talak highlighted various activities undertaken by the committee with the support of the committee members, the Member Secretary, and the dedicated staff of Ravindra Bhavan.
He said the Ravindra Bhavan canteen, now run by a self-help group, has become one of the most popular and frequently visited spots known for its food and ambience.
Similarly, he said the Ravindra Bhavan Club was created to provide a free meeting space (up to 3 hours, for groups of up to 8 people) to artistes, institutions, schools, music schools, colleges, drama and film producers, and directors. The initiative aims to encourage interaction among creative minds. “Last year, we had started film club with the aim to provide opportunities to people of South Goa to witness world class cinemas. This year, Shyam Benegal Festival was organised and actor Rajit Kapoor, Ashok Patki, Arti Tikekar interacted with the audience,” he said.
Talak said, ‘Khula Manch’ is a flagship weekly event held every Friday under the titles Natyanand, Nrityanand, Swaranand, and Kavyanand. It has provided a platform to over 400 budding Goan artists, offering them an honorarium as encouragement for their participation.
“We have free public performances wherein award-winning Konkani plays, Marathi dramas, tiatrs, and historical performances were staged at the Pai Tiatrist auditorium, with free entry for the public,” he said.
He added: “Ravindra Bhavan has extended its reach across Salcete taluka, covering eight constituencies. The remuneration for performances has been increased to Rs 50,000. Local MLAs from Margao, Fatorda, Curtorim, Navelim, and Velim have supported this initiative by encouraging local institutions and artistes,” he added.
