Leo Rodrigues resigned as Chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council on Monday evening and Girish Borker is likely to take over as the next municipality chairperson.
Rodrigues who submitted his resignation to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) said the decision was taken as part of a mutual understanding after his pre-decided one-year tenure had ended on Monday.
"As Chairperson, I ensured there was development across all 25 wards. I tried my best to get discipline in the markets by carrying out many anti-encroachment drives in the vegetable and fruit markets and even cleared abandoned vehicles from Vasco city to decongest and make ample parking space," said Rodrigues.
"Girish Borker is likely to be the next Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson and I hope he continues the development works for people in the municipality," added Rodrigues.
