Mormugao DySP asks public to use helpline to tackle cybercrime

Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh on Wednesday urged the people to use National Helpline number 1930 to tackle cybercrime, while adding that authorities have special powers to freeze the amount transferred to fraudsters if complains are made immediately.

Speaking to reporters, DySP Shaikh said there has been a significant rise in cybercrimes and that the National Helpline number 1930 was set up to tackle these crimes.

“This National Helpline number 1930 is toll-free and available for 24 hours. Anyone can register their complaints on this number at any time in case they are victims of a cybercrime or if they get calls from fraudsters asking for PIN numbers on the pretext of KYC verification on behalf of banks,” said DySP Shaikh.

“The complaint will be registered immediately and it will also generated a complaint number.”

DySP Shaikh also appealed to people to seek help of police in case they get calls from fraudsters. “We have trained our staff in every police station to help some people to register their complaints on this National Helpline number 1930. We appeal to people to immediately register their complaints online or immediately approach the police because we can withhold the money and stop it through the National Helpline number 1930.”

“The helpline has a team of experts and they have been given special powers to freeze the amount that has been transferred to their account and even withhold the payment if the fraudster has transferred the money from one bank to another,” he added.

“This ensures a bright chance for the victim to get the money back. Everyone must remember this number and use this portal to the maximum and they don’t even have to come to the police station,” said DySP Shaikh.

He informed that awareness about this National Helpline number 1930 will also be created by having huge banners and posters in every Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals.

“We will also have these posters at bus stands and railway stations as well, to ensure maximum publicity for the National Helpline number 1930, to tackle cybercrime,” said DySP Shaikh.
