Nandi darshan to showcase Goa’s ancient theatre tradition

As part of the 550th anniversary celebrations of Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, a grand series of religious and cultural programmes has been organised from November 27 to December 7, 2025.

On this occasion, a special cultural presentation titled ‘Nandi Darshan’ will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 7.30 pm at Jeevottam Mandap, Partagali.

This artistic presentation, conceptualised and inspired by Mathadish Parampoojya Shrimad Vidyadheesh Teerth Swamiji Maharaj, will offer audiences a unique experience of Goa’s ancient theatrical tradition. In many Saraswat temples of Goa, ‘Nandi’ is regarded as the auspicious beginning of a play. The programme will feature a grand presentation of 17 ‘Nandis’ — 15 from various temples following this tradition, along with two well-known ‘Nandis’ from musical plays: ‘Sangeet Shakuntal’ and ‘Sangeet Manapman’.

List of the 15 participating temples is as follows:

- Shree Navadurga Devasthan Madkai 

- Shree Mohini Devasthan, Sadolxem, Canacona

- Shree Mahalaxmi Devasthan, Panaji

- Shree Vimleshwar Devasthan, Rivona

- Shri Devkikrishna Devasthan, Marcela

- Shree Vetthal Devasthan, Fatorpa

- Shree Nagesh Maharudra Devasthan, Nageshi

- Shree Ramnath Devasthan, Ramnathi

- Shree Laxmi Mandir Trust, Sanvorcotto, Cuncolim

- Shree Damodar Devasthan, Zambaulim

- Shree Ashwath Narayan Devasthan, Canacona

- Shree Mahalasa Narayani Devasthan, Mardol

- Shree Kamakshi Devasthan, Shiroda

A total of 575 artistes from across Goa will take part in this programme. Their performances, presented through a blend of traditional music, costumes, and theatre styles, are expected to captivate the audience. Music for the entire programme is arranged by Yogish Sambari, with Gopal Prabhu (organ), Dattaraj Shetye (tabla), Kedar Dhamskar (pakhawaj), Yatin Talawlikar (percussion), Jitendra Borkar (stage management), and compering by Prof Bhaskar Naik.

‘Nandi Darshan’ aims to offer society an opportunity to experience the grandeur and cultural richness of this 550th-anniversary celebration. The organisers have appealed to all devotees, art lovers, and community members to attend and be part of this historic cultural event.
