Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Saturday handed over ICGS Amulya, the third in a series of eight fast patrol vessels (FPVs) being built for the Indian Coast Guard under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The First Reading Ceremony and formal handing-over function took place at the shipyard in the presence of GSL Chairman and Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Director (Operations) RAdm Nelson D’Souza (Retd), Director (Finance) Jahangeer Alam Ansari, DIG V K Parmar and Comdt (JG) Anupam Singh, the Commanding Officer of ICGS Amulya, along with other senior Coast Guard officials.

The 51.43-metre vessel is designed with an 8-metre breadth and 330-ton displacement at a draught of 2.5 metres. It is powered by twin marine diesel engines with controllable pitch propellers — a first in this FPV class — to provide higher propulsion efficiency. The ship can achieve speeds above 27 knots and has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles. It is also equipped with an integrated machinery control system to support long-duration operations. The vessel will have a crew of six officers and 35 sailors. Built for fisheries protection, Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance, coastal patrol, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and search-and-rescue operations, ICGS Amulya is expected to boost coastal and offshore security.

GSL said the handing over of the vessel highlights its commitment to maritime security and its role in advancing defence indigenisation under the Make in India framework. The shipyard added that it aims to remain a key contributor as India works towards strengthening its shipbuilding capabilities and expanding its presence in the blue economy.
