Candidates fielded by the Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday filed their nomination papers for the Zilla Panchayats of Benaulim, Colva and Navelim in the presence of party chief Jose Philip D’Souza.
Jose Philip expressed his disgust and anger at the Congress for not taking the NCP into confidence before finalising candidates. He said the NCP had worked for the Congress victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, questioning why the Congress decided to ignore the NCP in the ZP polls.
The party has fielded Graffins Fernandes for the Benaulim seat, Domingos Fernandes for Colva and Agnela D’Costa for Navelim.
Reminding that the NCP has a base in Benaulim Assembly constituency as evident by the election of MLAs to the Goa Legislative Assembly, D’Souza said the Congress failed to gauge the ground reality before ignoring the NCP. “Our candidate Graffins Fernandes had polled good votes in the 2024 Benaulim ZP poll. We have fielded winning candidates in the election,” he added.
