MARGAO
Relatives of Jagdish Jamuni, who passed away on August 7, have alleged negligence at the South Goa district hospital behind his death, claiming that they were forced to shift the victim to a private hospital due to a lack of beds at the district hospital.
Officials of the district hospital, however, questioned the negligence aspect raised by the family members, saying the deceased was taken for treatment in a private hospital, as claimed by the relatives.
Relatives have lodged a complaint with the Fatorda police demanding an inquiry into the death of Jagdish Jamuni and the alleged medical negligence at the district hospital.
Jamuni was taken to the South Goa district hospital around 17-18 days ago but was later shifted by the relatives to a private hospital due to the unavailability of beds. As his condition worsened while he was convalescing at the private hospital, relatives decided to shift him back to the district hospital on August 6.
In the police complaint, the relatives pointed out that no senior doctor attended to the patient after he was brought to the district hospital from the private hospital.
They also claimed that the patient was not put on oxygen despite the fact that his condition had turned serious. The family has asked the Fatorda police to conduct an inquiry and initiate action against those involved in the alleged negligence.
