Work has begun on the new Rs 1 crore Sangolda Panchayat Ghar, which has a provision for an outpost of the Saligao police station and a community hall.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik laid the foundation stone for the new Sangolda Panchayat Ghar near the Sangolda ground in the presence of ZP Sandeep Bandodkar, Sangolda Sarpanch Minolette Lopes and panch members Neeta Knadolkar, Avinash Naik and some residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said the existing panchayat office is very small and has no space for expansion.
“Hence, this Panchayat Ghar is being constructed by the RDA at a cost of Rs 1 crore. This Panchayat Ghar will be ground plus one structure. On the ground floor, there will be a panchayat office and a community hall will be located on the first floor for residents to host small functions, meetings, etc.,” said Naik.
“Residents were also unhappy about the distance to reach the Saligao police station, which is presently located at Pilerne. Hence, a provision for an outpost of the Saligao police station has been made in the new panchayat ghar. Now, locals need not visit the Saligao police station for small matters connected to the police.”
The MLA also mentioned that the contractor has been advised to complete work on the Panchayat Ghar within a year.
Naik stated that work on a power substation and 15 MLD water treatment plant at Pilerne is in progress, while hotmixing of internal roads has already started.
Sangolda Sarpanch Minolette Lopes said the issue of the Panchayat Ghar was pending for the last 15 years due to differences of opinion between panch members, and credited the MLA for resolving the issue. ZP Sandeep Bandodkar also spoke on the occasion.
Later, Naik launched the work to improve two Nullahs at Boros wado in Sangolda and Salmona in Saligao at an estimated cost of Rs 49 lakh.
