A meeting called by the South Goa District Collector, Egna Cleetus, on Tuesday discussed the issue of reopening the Sunni Gulistan Mosque in Gogol for prayers.
A group of Muslims made a plea to reopen the Masjid for prayers, more so in view of the fast-approaching Ramzan. However, no firm decision could be taken at the meeting, as a result of which another round of meetings has been convened on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Muslim community, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, district police chief SP Santosh Desai, Additional Collector Srinet Kothwale, and other senior police and district administration officials. “After the administration takes a decision, the same will be placed before the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for vetting and action,” Reginaldo said.
Reginaldo said the administration should take a positive decision since residents of the Housing Board are anxiously looking forward to the early reopening of the Masjid.
Sources said the administration has taken a stand to take both groups into confidence before taking any decision.
