Anjuna police have registered a case against Police Constable Saish Parsekar, the driver of a police jeep, on charges of stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 7-8 lakh from the body of a man who died in a road accident in Anjuna.

The case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Jovi Rodriguez, brother of the deceased, Juster Rodriguez (27).

The complainant has alleged that the accused constable stole a gold bracelet, earrings and a ring belonging to the deceased.

The accident occurred on January 25 at around 3.15 am near Rocky Garage in Anjuna. Juster Rodriguez was travelling from Arpora towards Anjuna when he reportedly lost control of his car, which plunged into a ditch.

He sustained serious injuries and later succumbed during treatment at the Mapusa District Hospital.

According to the complaint, shortly after the accident, a video call made by the complainant to his brother’s mobile phone was answered by Constable Saish Parsekar, who was on duty as the driver of the police jeep at the scene.

Later, during the panchanama, the police handed over the belongings of the deceased to his family.

However, the jewellery that the deceased was reportedly wearing at the time of the accident was missing from the items returned.

Suspecting theft, the family lodged a formal complaint, alleging that the gold ornaments were stolen by the police jeep driver.

Acting on the complaint, Anjuna police registered the case against the constable and have launched further investigation.
