Goa State Election Commissioner, Menino D'Souza has notified the ward reservation roster for the upcoming elections to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) expected to be held in mid-March.
Ten of the 30 wards are reserved for women, including three for women from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and one for Scheduled Tribe (ST) women.
Five wards are reserved for OBCs and the balance 15 wards are general.
The much anticipated elections are expected to be held in mid-March with the term of the current CCP headed by Mayor Rohit Monserrate ending.
Revenue Minister Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate is expected to float his panel again projecting his son Rohit as its face.
It will be backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Monserrate is reported to have replaced several sitting councillors to inject fresh faces into the line-up in a bid to consolidate his grip over Panaji’s civic body.
On the other side, a coalition is taking shape with multiple-term corporators Surendra and Ruth Furtado, rivals of Monserrate in CCP politics in the current term, joining hands with Utpal Parrikar, son of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, former councillor Menino Da Cruz and Taleigao aspirant Dattaprasad Naik.
