MARGAO
As strong speculations did the rounds in the State over imminent defection of Congress MLAs, one MLA who was the cynosure of all eyes was none other than senior legislator Digambar Kamat.
What further fuelled speculations was the fact that Kamat was conspicuous by his absence at the Partagali Jeevottam Mutt, Canacona in the morning, when a host of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Ministers, Goa Forward party Chief Vijai Sardesai and other MLAs partook in the Pratham Punyatithi of His Holiness Shreemadh Vidyadhiraj Teerth Shreepad Vader Swami on Saturday.
He, however, made his presence felt at the Partagali Mutt later around noon when most of the political leaders had left the place.
In the eye of a political storm over the imminent defection of Congress MLAs, Digambar Kamat sought to downplay the speculations, only saying he had been hearing these speculations in recent times. “I reached a bit late at the Partagali Mutt since I just returned from Mumbai”, Kamat told The Goan.
He, however, sought to dismiss reports and speculations that he was in Delhi to finalize the entry of eight Congress MLAs into the ruling BJP. “I headed to Kolkata in connection with a meeting of a sporting body. Since I am associated with sports, I have to travel to many States. That does not mean, I have a political agenda every time I go out of Goa”, he said.
