The North Goa District and Sessions Court on Thursday issued notices to the Superintendent of Police and the Police Inspector (Anti Corruption Bureau) returnable on March 19 when it was approached by the seven citizen-activists who filed a joint complaint before in the matter of bribery allegations made by former minister Pandurang Madkaikar.
The court has fixed the next hearing for March 19.
One of the seven complainants, Kashinath Shetye, said that they approached the court since no action had been taken after they filed the complaint with the ACB and even petitioned the SP in-charge.
"Since Madkaikar has claimed that he paid between Rs 15 and Rs 20 lakh, we had presented to the Police Inspector (ACB) that it falls under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which stipulates that anyone found in possession of that money faces jail time," Shetye said.
"We proceeded to the Sessions Court under the new BNS. The judge heard the case today (March 11) and sent out notices seeking explanation why the FIR has not been registered," Shetye added.
