Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged a “match-fixing” arrangement between the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Ponda by-election.
Addressing the media today, Sandesh Teleikar Dessai, Vice President of AAP Goa, claimed that workers of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) were seen campaigning alongside Congress candidate Ketan Bhatikar.
“Zilla Panchayat members and councillors from MGP are seen campaigning for the Congress candidate despite an alliance with the BJP. This shows that Congress is completely compromised,” Dessai said.
He further alleged that there were internal “arrangements” within Congress that voters should be aware of. Dessai also criticised Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira, over his recent remarks against AAP candidate Geetesh Naik regarding non-disclosure of past details in his affidavit.
“Adv Carlos Ferreira referred to Supreme Court guidelines on disclosure of a candidate’s background. He must now clarify this within 24 hours to Ponda voters where Congress stands,” Dessai said.
He further alleged that some BJP workers were indirectly supporting the Congress campaign, adding that if the Congress candidate wins, “it would effectively be a BJP-backed victory rather than a Congress one.”
