Basilica closed for visitors, tourists during Holy Week Triduum

The Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old Goa will be closed for tourists and other visitors from the morning of April 2 till 11 am on April 5, on account of religious services during the Holy Week Triduum.

In an official statement, Fr Patricio Fernandes, SJ, Rector of Basilica of Bom Jesus, said liturgical services for the Catholic community will be conducted during these sacred Paschal Triduum and all services will be in English. "On Maundy Thursday (April 2), the Lord's Supper, the liturgical services will begin at 5 pm," the statement read.

Further, the Liturgical services on Good Friday, April 3, the Passion of the Lord, will begin at 3 pm. Earlier in the day, there will be devotions, which will include The Way of the Cross (10 am), The Three Hour Agony (12 pm), and The Divine Mercy Novena. 

Following day, on Holy Saturday, April 4, the devotion "Mater Dolorosa" will be conducted at 10 am with the Easter Vigil service commencing at 11.30 pm. 

Lastly the Easter Sunday morning will be held on April 5. “On Easter Sunday morning, April 5, masses will be celebrated at 6 am, 7 am, 8 am in Konkani and 9.15 am in English,” stated Fr Patricio Fernandes, S.J., Rector at the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Easter Sunday is a Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
