Stating that the Verla-Canca Panchayat is the first panchayat in North Goa to offer online payment services and other facilities, WRD Minister Vinoda Paliencar said other panchayats should emulate it and make available such services available
to people.
He was speaking during the launch of the panchayat website and online tax payment in collaboration with HDFC Bank on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Monday.
Speaking further, Palyekar said the nation has become technologically advanced and the State's constituencies and panchayats should reap benefits from the technology.
"The Verla-Canca Panchayat has become an ideal panchayat after starting the technological services. All the six panchayats in my constituency should go online and offer people good services," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Canca-Verla Sarpanch Milton Marques said the Canca-Verla Panchayat is the first panchayat in North Goa, and second in Goa after the Navelim Panchayat, to offer services online. He also praised WRD Minister Paliencar and panchas for implementing the service.
Giving details of the online service of the panchayat, panchayat secretary Lency Leo said people can now pay house tax and other taxes to the panchayat through the e-payment portal.
"People can pay tax by debit card or by net banking. Applications for birth, residence and other certificates will be made available on the panchayat's website, while information regarding RTI and panchayat act has been posted on the website," informed Leo.
With the help of HDFC Bank officials, panchayat secretary Leo presented a power-point presentation to brief the people about the online system.
BDO Krishnakant Kamat, HDFC Bank officer Nevil Noronha, HDFC Bank Mapusa branch manager Eric Ferrao, businessman Franky Viegas and panchas were present.
