Goa police on Saturday initiated the process to seek a Blue Corner Notice against British national Surinder Kumar Khosla, one of the accused in the Birch nightclub fire on December 6 that killed 25 people.
The request is being processed through central agencies, as the department suspects the accused might have fled to the UK after the incident.
“We have initiated the process for issuance of an Interpol Blue Corner Notice against UK national Surinder Kumar Khosla, the owner of the property on which the unauthorised structure housing the nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane was functioning. This step is being taken to ascertain his whereabouts and to secure his presence for investigation,” a police official said.
Officials said that the land on which the establishment was built had been leased to Khosla, and he is currently engaged in a prolonged legal dispute with the original landowner, Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar.
Amonkar had earlier said that he had initially signed a sale agreement with Khosla in 2004, but withdrew it within six months due to non-payment. Khosla subsequently established a nightclub on the property, which was later acquired by Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra.
“Khosla was present in Goa when the incident occurred on December 6 but fled the country soon after,” the official said.
The move comes days after co-owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, against whom a Blue Corner Notice and a Look Out Circular had been issued, were deported to India this week and subsequently arrested.
