The police recruitment drive, organized for the first timein South Goa, has evinced keen interest among people from Sanvordem, Curchorem,Shiroda and Canacona talukas.

Surprisingly, the response from Salcete was low key.

The recruitment began on November 5 and will continue tillNovember 19 at Jawarhlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

“We had terrific response for the recruitment. We noticedpeople from the South never responded to police recruitment drive, probablybecause the drive was always being held in faraway North Goa,” said SPHeadquarters, Arvind Gawas.

“Already more than 2,000 candidates have appeared for thetest in just two days,” an ecstatic Gawas exclaimed.

The recruitment drive begins with document verification andthe physical efficiency test consisting of a 100 meter dash, 800 meter dash, high jump, long jump and short put.

Those who qualify the physical efficiency test are latercalled for a written test, SP Gawas explains.

The highlight of the test has been the low response fromXastikars to the recruitment drive, who prefer NRI jobs to police jobs. Exceptfor Quepem, response from BJP-ruled states of Sanvordem, Curchorem, Shiroda andCanacona have seen a surge in the recruitment.

“We cannot single out any particular constituency.Application forms have been made available across all police stations in Southand North, while advertisements were displayed in all newspapers,” said RaiaNaik, police in-charge of the recruitment drive.

One of the candidate from Sanguem constituency disclosedthat his MLA, Subhash Paldessai would take keen interest to inform the youthabout the recruitment drive whenever they visited him for jobs.

Some other MLAs from the South, including Cumbharjua MLA,Pandurang Madkaikar have prominently displayed, on the noticeboard in theiroffices, about the police recruitment drive.

Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardessai pointed out that every MLA haselaborate connectivity and database to inform their constituents of recruitmentdrives or its benefits.

“Sadly, this government follows the methods of theirpredecessors. There is a nexus among the ruling MLAs on selection of thecandidates. This is unfair,” Sardessai said.

Vivek Tambi from Sao Jose de Areal, who has appeared for thepolice recruitment exam for the second time asserted that physical tests was acake walk for candidates who are physically fit or a sportsperson.

He appealed to the government to make the written test moretransparent, as the final scores are never known.
