PONDA
Though senior police officials are not willing to give information about the ‘Sudir Sukt' case, some noted Konkani poets and writers said police have taken their views on the book penned by former MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh.
Publisher of Apurbay Prakashan, Hema Naik said the police has not summoned her, so far.
It may be recalled that Ponda Police had registered an FIR against Wagh and publisher Apurbaay Prakashan over the controversial poetry collection book ‘Sudir Sukta', following a complaint from Auda Viegas of Bailancho Ekvott.
An offence has been registered under Sections 292, 293 of IPC and Section 4 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986. Wagh came into controversy over his Konkani poetry book ‘Sudhir Sukt', after a jury reportedly leaked the information that Goa
Konknni Academy (GKA) decided to give a literary award to Wagh's ‘Sudhir Sukta'.
Since Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has reportedly assured to file closure report in the FIR against Wagh after investigation, the senior police officials are not willing to speak in the matter.
"As the chief minister has intervened in this matter, I will not comment," a top police official said on condition of anonymity.
When contacted some noted poets, who had objection of some of the poems in the book, said police have taken their views.
"Police asked for my view on those poems. I told what I felt after reading them. I am not saying that whole book is bad in taste, but he should have not published few poems which targets caste. Otherwise, the book and local Konkani language used in the book is at its best," a poet told The Goan.
Another poet, who is being targeted on social media by Wagh's fans, said police has taken his views. "I am not against Vishnu, but he should have not published the poems which are targeting upper caste," he said.
Publisher of the book, Hema Naik told The Goan that so far police have not contacted her in this case.
"They have not contacted me in this regard, so the question doesn't arise of recording the statements," she said.
