Porvorim elevated corridor: Contractor seeks road closures to speed up work

MAPUSA: Project contractor, RRSM Infra Pvt Ltd, on Tuesday acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the public due to the ongoing construction of the elevated corridor, but appealed to residents to cooperate for the timely completion of the project, stating that the hardship was temporary and aimed at long-term benefits.

Senior Manager MCS Kurup admitted that commuters and local businesses were suffering because of the project work, but stressed that faster execution would ultimately ease their difficulties.

“We agree that people are suffering and businesses have been affected due to the ongoing work. However, if we are able to complete the project on time or even earlier, people will be free of these problems,” Kurup said.

He urged local residents to cooperate with officials and workers to ensure uninterrupted construction activity, adding that a lack of compliance was slowing down progress.

Kurup pointed out that company employees often face resistance from locals, especially when people forcibly enter no-movement zones during overhead construction works, posing serious safety risks.

“At times, people come to fight with us, creating a very hostile atmosphere for our workers,” he said, noting that such incidents make it difficult to carry out work safely and efficiently.

The senior manager said the company was keen to complete the project at the earliest and move out of the area, but explained that frequent vehicular movement was hampering critical activities, such as the launching of segments during the day.

He added that if residents could bear the inconvenience for some time and allow total road closures during key phases of construction, the pace of work could be significantly accelerated, leading to early completion of the elevated corridor.
