Says it will reduce Goa-Belagavi travel time to 30 mins
BELAGAVI
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has stated that his ministry has taken up the implementation of a Ring Road around Belagavi City, connecting Belagavi-Panaji NH 748 and the Belagavi-Goa Road via Chorla on the highway at Bennalli village in North Belagavi.
He was speaking after the inauguration of the Kalasavalli-Ambargondlu Bridge in Shivamogga district of Karnataka on Monday.
The cable-stayed bridge across the Sharavati River backwaters and the approach roads have been constructed at a cost of over Rs 473 crore by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Gadkari, who was accompanied by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa on the occasion, also laid the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects in the region.
“The Centre has taken up the six-laning of the NH748. The work on the Rs 4,000 crore Ring Road around Belagavi will also commence soon. This will reduce the travel time between Goa and Belagavi from the present 1 hour to just 30 minutes,” Gadkari said.
Stating that 80% of the land required for this road has been acquired, the union minister said 77% of the work of six-laning from Belagavi to the Maharashtra border on NH748 has been completed.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his cabinet colleagues, and Congress MLAs boycotted the event as a mark of protest after the CM’s request to postpone the event to another date was rejected by the Centre.
Meanwhile, commuters from Goa and Belagavi were left wondering how the one-and-a-half hour time required to travel between Goa and Belagavi would be reduced to just 35 minutes after the implementation of the Ring Road around Belagavi.
Despite the repaired roads, a minimum of about two-and-a-half hours is required to travel between Sanquelim and Belagavi.
