Mangalsutra, cash worth Rs 3.7 lakh burgled in Pernem

PERNEM

A mangalsutra worth Rs 3 lakh and cash of Rs 70,000 were burgled in broad daylight at a house in Nanerwada-Pernem on Monday morning.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 11 am, when a burglar broke into the house of Renuka Shirodkar while she had gone to her shop in Pernem market.

When Shirodkar returned home from her shop in the market, she found the lock on the door broken and her house ransacked. She alerted the neighbours and then notified the police. A police team went to the site to conduct investigations under the guidance of Pernem Police Inspector Sachin Lokre.

The burglary in broad daylight has shocked residents in the area. Shirodkar lived on the ground floor while tenants lived on the upper floor. The burglar is reported to have locked the tenants’ door from the outside to ensure that they would not come down. The burglar was also aware that Shirodkar would not be at home at the time of the burglary.
