In a commendable display of honesty, two persons found a gold bracelet valued at about Rs 10 lakh and the bracelet was later handed over to its rightful owner with the assistance of Mapusa police on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, the incident took place when Tanishka Govekar from Nachinola was going home from Mapusa. On the way, she found a gold bracelet lying on the Moira bridge. She picked it up and stayed there for some time.
After some time, another person reached the site. He called Pradeep Palyekar on the bridge and Palyekar later took the bracelet from Tanishka Govekar after stating that he would locate the owner of the bracelet and hand over to the person.
Tanishka handed over the bracelet to Palyekar and noted his mobile number.
After reaching home, Tanishka later proceeded to the Aldona Police Outpost and narrated the matter to the police.
The police then contacted Palyekar and inquired about the bracelet. Palyekar went to the Mapusa police station and handed over the bracelet to the police.
In the meanwhile, Palyekar posted on social media that he was in possession of a missing bracelet and that, the owner of the bracelet should contact him.
By sheer luck and coincidence, the post was seen by the Raikar family and they contacted the Mapusa police.
They were called to the police station and the police after conducting proper investigation and verification, handed over the bracelet to Srikanth Ananth Raikar (71).
Mapusa Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar praised Tanishka Govekar and Pradeep Palyekar for their honesty and integrity.
