The State Bank of India (SBI), the Lead Bank for North Goa District, organised a campaign on Wednesday to help people reclaim unclaimed money lying in banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions.

The event, held at a city hotel, is part of the nationwide Finance Ministry campaign “Aapki Punji, Aapka Adhikar” (Your Money, Your Right), which runs from October 1 to December 31.

Unclaimed assets include inactive bank accounts older than 10 years, unredeemed term deposits, mutual funds, and unpaid insurance policies.

Such cases often arise due to outdated contact details, lack of awareness, or the death of account holders without nominations.

According to official estimates, over Rs 97,000 crore in unclaimed deposits are lying across banks in India. The government and financial institutions are now working to reunite citizens with their rightful funds.

Additional Collector (North Goa) Pundalik Korjuvenkar, LIC Goa Division Head Sangeeta Parab, and senior officials from the Reserve Bank of India, SBI, and other banks attended the event.

“This campaign is about helping people reclaim what belongs to them. We aim to make the process transparent and simple,” said a senior SBI official.

As part of the drive, SBI and other banks will set up help desks in branches across North Goa and launch a digital portal for users to search for unclaimed funds through their PAN or Aadhaar numbers.

Officials also urged citizens to update their records and nominate beneficiaries to prevent future issues.
