Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that Goa is one of the leading states in implementing National Education Policy.
"Every school must have good quality teachers to teach the students. The government is therefore planning to have the selection of teachers of aided schools through Staff Selection to improve the standard of education. In the present process of selection of teachers in aided schools, the talented youths sometimes do not get the teacher's job. Hence there is a need of transparent procedure for the selection of good teachers. If all the teachers are selected through Staff Selection after having skill tested, the aided schools will have quality teachers, said Sawant.
He was speaking at Porvorim after laying the foundation stone of Centre of Excellence building of District Institute of Education and Training in the presence of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Secretary of Education Prasad Lolayenkar, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, Director SCERT Meghna Shetgaonkar and state Project Director –Goa Samagrah Shiksha Dr Shambhu Ghadi.
Sawant said that this building of Centre of excellence of DIET is being constructed at a cost of around Rs 50 crore out of which 60 per cent of cost will be borne by Central government and remaining 40 per cent by state government.
"This will be a permanent infrastructure of DIET and training to the regular teachers will be provided in this premises. The students passing DEd course do not have scope in New Education Policy. The students who pass DEd course will have to do a short bridge course to become eligible to teach the students under National education policy. This bridge course will be introduced soon," Sawant said.
Vice Principal of District Institute of Education and Training Devidas Kudav welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.
