The India Meteorological Department (IMD) flagged a low to moderate flash flood risk across Goa on Saturday-Sunday. Similar warnings have been issued in coastal Maharashtra including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Raigad as well as Karnataka’s Uttara and Dakshina Kannada districts, touching Goa borders.
The IMD Goa has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated extremely heavy spells across the Konkan region including Goa till June 16. While June 17 could witness very heavy rainfall in isolated pockets, isolated heavy rain activity is expected to continue from June 18 to 20.
A high wave warning has also been issued till 8:30 pm on Sunday with the stakeholders advised to be careful while carrying out marine operations and near shore recreation. Similarly, fishing communities, marine operators and beachgoers have been strongly advised to exercise caution during this period.
The State has recorded heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the past two to three days. In the last 24 hours, Pernem recorded the highest 145.8 mm rainfall while Mapusa received 89.2 mm and Panaji 67.8 mm. Other rainfall readings include Sanquelim (64.4 mm), Dharbandora (60 mm), Sanguem (42.1 mm), Ponda (40.8 mm), Dabolim (37.8 mm), Mormugao (32.4 mm), Margao (31.4 mm), Ela-Old Goa (31.2 mm), Quepem (30 mm) and Canacona (24.2 mm). On Saturday, South Goa was placed under Red Alert and Orange Alert for North Goa.
