Even as the five-year tenure of the eleven municipal councils ended on Wednesday, the government on Thursday appointed administrators to run these local bodies.

The administrators of the IAS cadre will govern these bodies till the elections are held. The elections, which were supposed to be held on October 11, 2019, were postponed for three months due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

The administrators are: Prasanna Acharya (Margao), Gurudas Pilarnkar (Mormugao), Paresh Faldesai (Mapusa), Vikas Naik Gaunekar (Bicholim), Florina Colaco (Cuncolim), Ashutosh Apte (Curchorem), Dipali Naik (Quepem), Rajesh Ajgaonkar (Valpoi), Nilesh Dhaimodkar (Sanguem), Johnson Fernandes (Canacona) and Ravishankar Nipanikar (Pernem).

The councils of Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Bicholim, Cuncolim, Curchorem, Quepem, Canacona, Sanguem, Pernem, and Valpoi were elected on October 27, 2015.

The administrators would be above the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO).

Meanwhile, it is expected that the elections for 11 municipal councils and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) could be held by end of February 2021.

Presently, administrators are also looking after the affairs of North and South Goa Zilla Panchayats, where the elections were due in March.
