With Margao Municipal Council paying no heed to their long standing demand to clear unauthorised vendors and hawkers in the New market area, a group of New Market Traders have warned they will be forced to take the law in their hands if the Civic body fails to crack a whip against the illegal vendors.

Former President of the New Market traders Association Vinod Shirodkar along with a group of traders have further demanded that the Margao Municipality fix the sanitation issues plaguing the market toilet block.

In fact, Vinod along with some traders went round the passages of the New Market to warn unauthorised vendors selling goods in the market area. “We have warned these vendors to stop selling goods in the market area. The business of the new market traders has been adversely affected. While we wait for customers to come in the market, these unauthorised vendors make roaring business”, he added.

Vinod and the traders made a fervent plea to the Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar to crack a whip against the illegal vendors.

He also requested the Civic body to improve the sanitation in the New Market toilet block. “The toilet block is mostly used by women working in the New Market. We request the MMC to improve the sanitation amenities in the toilet block”, he added.
