A portion of the compound wall collapsed at the St Britto High School in Mapusa in the wee hours of Monday, damaging a house along with three two-wheelers parked by the roadside.
This is the third time that a portion of the compound wall has collapsed in the last three years.
According to reports, the portion of the school compound wall collapsed in front of Shri Kajreshwar Temple due to incessant rains at about 5 pm.
Stones and mud from the wall fell on the road, cutting off road access at the site. A house and three two-wheelers which were parked by the roadside were damaged in the incident.
Fortunately, there were no casualties as the incident had taken place early in the morning.
On hearing of the incident, a fire tender went to the site, while Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Priya Mishal and Councillor Ashirwad Khorjuvekar also visited the site to take stock of the situation.
Later, the MMC cleared the stones and soil with the help of a JCB and reopened the road for traffic.
Mishal said this is the third time that the compound wall of the school had collapsed.
In the first incident, Archana Naik, an employee of the electricity department, had been injured when a portion of the wall collapsed in July 2022. The second incident had taken place in June 2023. Last year, the PWD had reconstructed the wall at a cost of Rs 18 lakh from the MLA funds.
