Landslides, damages to structures and uprooting of trees were reported at several places across Bardez due to continuous rains, disrupting normal life in the taluka on Monday.
A house was partially damaged in a landslide near the cemetery of St Jerome's Church in Mapusa, posing a serious threat to the structure and other houses in the vicinity.
A fire brigade as well as local Councillor Kishori Korgaonkar and her son, Chetan, went to the site. The affected family will be shifted to another place on Tuesday, while those walls which are in a precarious condition will be demolished by the Mapusa Municipal Council.
At Bastora, the protection wall collapsed at the old house of Bastora’s first sarpanch, late Reginaldo D'Souza, disrupting traffic along the Bastora-Ucassaim road.
Bastora Sarpanch Rakhi Naroji later pressed into service a JCB and workers to clear the stones and soil from the road, restoring traffic along the route.
Elsewhere, trees got uprooted and fell on roads and power lines in Siolim, Assagao, Canca, Tivim, Ucassaim and Nerul. Fire tenders from Mapusa and Pilerne went to the sites and cleared the uprooted trees, while electricity department workers restored power supply to the affected areas.
