CANACONA

For the third year in a row, parishioners in Agonda village decorated all graves in a uniform manner at the St Anne’s Church cemetery on the eve of All Souls’ Day.

The uniform decoration of graves has been followed to ensure equal tribute to all departed souls with a collective community-wide contribution, instead of only respective bereaved families decorating the graves of their departed near and dear ones in their own way and style.

Making the bulk purchases of flowers needed for the decoration, some parishioners worked separately to segregate the petals and provide the flowers and petals to parishioners working in the cemetery to decorate each and every grave.

As the decoration took time, and got completed past sunset, Agonda Parish Priest Fr Patrick Luis and Assistant to Parish Priest Fr Baltazar Fernandes joined the parishioners for a prayer and rosary.

The Agonda parishioners also cut the bushes and removed the weeds in the cemetery, as they prepared the graves for the All Souls’ Day.

In parishes across Canacona taluka, the first Mass on All Souls Day (Sunday) will be held in cemetery.
