Curtorim village witnessed an uproar over a construction project in the village, with residents demanding immediate revocation of the construction licence.
Agitated residents called on the Village Sarpanch Alcinha D’Silva to protest over the approval granted for a housing project at Maina, demanding immediate revocation of the construction licence issued to the project.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco also made his presence felt at the Panchayat body when the residents came to demand the licence revocation. After much discussion, the MLA suggested to the Sarpanch Alcinha D’Silva to revoke the licence, but after following the due process of law.
The residents, comprising Zilla Panchayat member Michele Rebello, Moreno Rebello, besides the Panchayat members, pointed out issues with the construction licence, saying the concerned Panchayat member was not kept in the loop for the inspection.
Sarpanch D’Silva later told the media that the Panchayat had issued the construction licence based on the technical clearance received from the Town and Country Planning Department. Since the residents are now demanding revocation of the construction licence, the Panchayat will take steps to revoke the licence after complying with the process.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo told the Panchayat to observe the process before revoking the construction licence, saying that any hasty action might allow the party to file an appeal in the court.
Congress leader Moreno Rebello said the party has cut down the trees standing on the property in question after the Panchayat issued the construction licence. He demanded action against the party for cutting down the trees.
The residents, along with the Curtorim Sarpanch, later visited the site in question for an inspection.
