The chairman of the governing body of the college Khalap was speaking while collecting money from the public on Sunday.
The Mandrem Vikas Parishad has issued donation coupons to run the college whose grant has been stopped by the government.
The former Union minister and his team visited house-to-house at Mandrem to sell the donation coupons.
“In order to serve poor students, I started this college in the heart of Mandrem constituency. The main idea was that students should not travel long distance for education. The government has done injustice not only to the college but also to the people of Pernem taluka,” Khalap told media persons.
“The government is playing politics with the college, but people of Permen are with us and they are donating money to run the college,” he said.
“We intend to collect atleast Rs 1 crore,” Khalap added.
It may be recalled that after the government stopped grants to the college, political leaders from Pernem formed Mandrem College Annaya Nivaran Samiti, of which Khalap is the convenor.
