Championing the cause of women empowerment, INDIA bloc’s North Goa Lok Sabha candidate Ramakant Khalap said that he will fight to be the voice of all women in the country.

“India’s culture worships ‘Nari Shakti’ in various forms, be it Saraswati, Laxmi, our mothers, sisters, etc. I promise to be the voice of all women and vow to fight for justice for Nari Shakti, and for this, I pledge the rest of my life to this cause,” Khalap said.

He was speaking at the INDIA bloc North Goa Mahila Sabha organised by the North District Mahila Congress in Mapusa on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, women have been sidelined in this country. This is injustice. We need to change this, and only the Congress Party can do this. Indira Gandhi, the former Congress Prime Minister, was termed as ‘Durga Mata’ by then opposition leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee for playing a stellar role in the India-Pakistan war and ensuring Bangladesh got liberation. When you go to vote, remember Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Bharat Mata,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira questioned the performance of incumbent MP Shripad Naik, particularly regarding job creation. He highlighted the dissatisfaction among constituents over the lack of employment opportunities in various sectors, despite government assurances through schemes like the Pre-employment Training Scheme (PETS) and skill development initiatives.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar urged voters to reject the Revolutionary Goans party, labelling it as the “B-Team of the BJP”.

He emphasised that the Congress-led INDIA bloc is better positioned to address the State’s issues.
