PWD employees marched to the Ponda Police Station on Tuesday morning to demand the arrest of a person accused of assaulting a staff member on duty near a water tank at Shantinagar in Ponda.

The staff protest outside the police station disrupted water supply in many areas. Later, one person was arrested for the assault.

The incident occurred around 5 pm when Pradip alias Govind Vishnu Gaonkar, a resident of Wadi-Talaulim, was on duty near the water tank at Shantinagar. Pradip Gaonkar, who has worked with the PWD for 22 years, was releasing water from the tank when he was allegedly assaulted by Nagesh Naik. Pradip was treated at the Sub District Hospital.

A complaint was registered later that night at the Ponda Police Station. On Tuesday, around 50 PWD employees marched to the police station and demanded the arrest of the accused. The protest outside the police station disrupted water supply in many areas, causing some inconvenience to the public.

Assistant Engineer Yashwant Mapari then lodged a formal complaint about the assault, and the police arrested Nagesh Naik (49) of Shantinagar. After the arrest, the PWD employees returned to work, and water supply was restored in the affected areas.
