The Harbour Coastal Police have registered an offence against two individuals for operating a boat without a licence and endangering lives at sea.

The incident occurred on Sunday at around 6:30 pm off the coast of Dona Paula. The accused, Vasudev Calangutkar from Tita Wada, Nerul, owner of the boat ‘MV Nerul Paradise,’ allowed Abhishek Rathod (20) from Candolim, originally from Bijapur, Karnataka, to operate the passenger vessel without the necessary documents or licence. They boarded the vessel with tourist passengers and one crew member.

Abhishek Rathod operated the vessel negligently without a licence, endangering the lives of the passengers and crew. The vessel became stranded at sea.

The boat had to be rescued by the Indian Coast Guard. The Coastal Police have registered an offence under Sections 280 and 336 read with 34 of the IPC. PSI Pritesh Govekar of Harbour Coastal Police Station is further investigating the case.
