Clearly impressed by the Wealth Out Of Waste (WOOW) Garbage treatment plant set up at Chicalim Panchayat, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he would write to the National Panchayats Minister to direct Swacchh Bharat Missions (SBM) across the country to visit the plant in Chicalim.
Sawant was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the WOOW Garbage treatment plant in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, Dy Director Panchayat Prasiddh Naik and others.
“Godinho has taken the initiative to start a WOOW plant under funds from SBM Grameen and I am so impressed with his vision that I will write about this plant to all the SBMs in India and to Union Panchayats Minister to visit Chicalim and see how they can use SBM funds to make plants like this,” said Sawant.
“Godinho has utilised this opportunity to the maximum and is also generating power from the plant that will run this plant and make it self-sufficient. This is the first such plant in Goa at the Gram Panchayat level.”
“As population increases there is a need to address sewage issues and Godinho has gone one step further and set up a faecal waste treatment plant where sewage water will be treated and used for gardening. This water will be used at the garden in the Jogger’s park and this will reduce the dependency of potable water supply of around 80,000 litres from the PWD department through tankers,” the chief minister added.
Godinho said the garbage menace had to be resolved on priority in Dabolim constituency.
“We have around 6,500 different flower/fruits bearing and medicinal plants at Jogger’s Park and it will need around 80,000 litres of water. We have set up a faecal waste treatment plant and sewage water will be treated to provide water for the trees at Jogger’s park directly through a pipeline.”
“We will have segregation of garage and while dry garbage will be given to different agencies, wet waste will be treated to generate power through turbines which will power Jogger’s Park and surrounding areas,” said Godinho.
