Fraternity urged to take 10-point charter through tiatr to the masses
Environmentalist Claude Alvares making a plea to members of the tiatr fraternity to awaken the masses to join the battle to save Goa.

Environmentalist Dr Claude Alvares on Thursday made an impassioned plea to the tiatr fraternity to take the 10-point charter of demands raised by retired Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice Ferdino Rebello to the masses from the tiatr platform and gear up for a battle to save Goa from destruction.
In fact, Alvares said Goan society will not wake up unless there is fire, adding that the best platform to awaken the masses is tiatr.
Addressing members of the tiatr fraternity at an interactive session organised by Brian Box Institute and social activist Anthony D’Silva at the Waterfront, Assolna on Thursday, Alvares lamented that the Goan society is fast asleep. “What we are trying to do now along with Justice Rebello is to shake up the Goan society. Because, our very own Goan civil service officers as well as the IAS officers are not cooperating with the people. In such circumstances, people need to come out and protest. We have seen what happened on January 6, when hundreds of people thronged the Menezes Braganza hall. We had to put up a screen at the Azad Maidan, Panaji so that people can participate and free their anger,” he said.
He added: “Unless we awaken the society through various mediums, including tiatr, our mountains, hills, rivers will all be destroyed. There will be no Goans left. We will lose everything like what happened in Vasai. We will be finished.”
Saying tiatr plays a pivotal role in highlighting social issues, Alvares said the tiatrists are the best agents in Goan society to get the people on the streets to protest and save Goa from destruction.
Terming the bunch of 40 MLAs in the Assembly as clowns, with 30 amongst them real estate agents, Alvares said the tiatrists will be given the 10-point charter of demands to take the same to the masses. “We are heading towards elections in 2027. You need to prepare the scripts, particularly election related ahead of the election,” he said.
Noted tiatrist and Konkani writer Tomazinho Cardozo recalled the work carried out by tiatrists in the post-Liberation period to protect Goa from destruction. “The people are behind the tiatrists since tiatr is a powerful medium to bring about a change,” he said, while making an appeal to the tiatr fraternity to compose songs and scripts keeping Goa in mind to bring about awareness amongst the people to save Goa from destruction.
