Police identify man in Baga beach harassment case; probe underway

Calangute police have registered a case and identified a suspect in connection with the harassment of a woman tourist at Baga beach on the intervening night of December 31, 2025.

According to police, the complaint was lodged on January 5, 2026 at around 8.15 pm by Director of Tourism Kedar Naik, following the circulation of a video showing a woman tourist being harassed at the beach.

The accused allegedly made obscene gestures, thereby outraging the modesty of the woman.

Based on the complaint, Calangute police station registered a case under Sections 74, 75 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023 against an unknown person.

During the course of investigation, police used technical surveillance to trace and identify the accused as Sunil Pawar (29) of Chembur-Mumbai, with his native place at Hadgaon, Nanded district, Maharashtra.

Police said the accused was brought to the police station for investigation, and further legal action is underway.

The investigation team includes PSI Dinesh Kanolkar along with police personnel Smital Bandekar, Gaurish Karbotkar, Raj Parab and Anshul Ghadi.

Further investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Calangute PI Paresh Naik with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Harishchandra Madkaikar.
